Grevillea laurifolia is low-growing, native groundcover from the Blue Mountains which is one parent of many cultivated Grevillea hybrids like 'Royal Mantle'. But it is also a beautiful plant in its own right - and deserves to be grown in more gardens where it has a long flowering period from spring into summer and is popular with birds and bees. New in the nursery this week is the beautiful Hellebore 'Angel Glow' which features striking pink buds that open to elegant light-pink flowers. Older flowers later fade to off-white creating a very interesting floral display of pinks and whites. Correas are winter-flowering native shrubs which are very popular with birds. Most forms will do well in full sun or dappled light - making them a handy option for planting around larger feature shrubs which might create some shade in the garden. Anigozanthos ‘Bush Tenacity’ is a compact kangaroo paw (only growing to 0.5m tall) which features stunning yellow/gold flowers on red stems. A couple of nice native options in the nursery this morning for some instant flowering / colour in your winter garden. Philotheca 'Winter Rouge' is a hardy, compact (1m x 1m) wax flower which features masses of white flowers opening from pink buds from winter to spring. Syzygium 'Orange Twist' is a striking lilly pilly which features white flowers in summer and purple berries in autumn but the orange new foliage and reddish stems provide colour right across the year. This is an excellent hedging / screening lilly pilly as regular pruning will encourage more colourful new growth. Camellia sinensis - Tea Plant - flowering in the nursery. This is the camellia that is grown and harvested in tea plantations - but it also makes a very attractive feature planting in the garden with neat, dense foliage and small, delicate white flowers with golden centres.
